MGCCC's Cade, Sanders named All-Region

PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast's dynamic pitching tandem of Kristen Cade and Avery Sanders were named to the NJCAA All-Region 23 Team as voted on by the coaches.

 

They led Gulf Coast to a 31-14 record and a No. 12 ranking in the final NJCAA regular-season poll. They were two of 15 players to win the honor.

 

Cade, a freshman from Harrison Central, went 15-5 with a 2.70 ERA. She struck out 173 batters in 122 innings and threw a no-hitter against Southwest. She was named MACJC Pitcher of the Week in consecutive weeks in March.

 

Cade finished ninth in the country in strikeouts and fifth in strikeouts per seven innings with 9.93.

 

Sanders, a sophomore from Thibodaux, La., went 12-5 with a 1.93 ERA. She struck out 122 batters in 101.2 innings and also was named MACJC Pitcher of the Week a league-leading four times.

 

Sanders finished 14th in the country in strikeouts per seven innings with 8.40 and 15th in ERA. She will continue her college career at Mississippi College.
