PERKINSTON — Six Mississippi Gulf Coast softball players have been named to the All-MACJC teams for 2019, with pitchers Avery Sanders and Kristen Cade and third baseman Briana Shores earning first-team honors.
Outfielder Kaitlynn McGoey, catcher Kayla Cade and shortstop Shelby Archer were named to the second team for the Lady Bulldogs, who finished 12th in the final regular-season poll.
Sanders, a sophomore from Thibodaux, La., went 12-5 with a 1.93 ERA. She struck out 122 batters in 101.2 innings and also was named MACJC Pitcher of the Week a league-leading four times.
Kristen Cade, a freshman from Harrison Central, went 15-5 with a 2.70 ERA. She struck out 173 batters in 122 innings and threw a no-hitter against Southwest. She was named MACJC Pitcher of the Week in consecutive weeks in March.
Shores, a freshman from Richland, played a stellar third base, finishing with a .973 fielding percentage. She batted .279 with two home runs and 22 RBI.
McGoey, a sophomore from Long Beach, batted .268 with 16 RBIs while playing a flawless right field. She didn't make an error in 47 chances and had two assists.
Kayla Cade, a freshman from Harrison Central, batted .426. She had two home runs and 11 RBI.
Archer, a freshman from Pearl River Central, led the Lady Bulldogs with 13 home runs and tied for the team lead with 36 RBI. She batted .341 with 9 doubles and a triple.
