MGCCC's Sanders wins 4th MACJC weekly award

PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast right-hander Avery Sanders won her fourth MACJC Pitcher of the Week award for an undefeated week last week.

Sanders, a sophomore from Thibodaux, La., didn't allow an earned run and struck out 25 batters in a 3-0 week. She allowed three hits in each of her wins, an 11-3 results over Meridian, a 9-0 win at Mississippi Delta, and a 16-0 win over Coahoma.

Sanders also had a pinch-hit grand slam in an 11-10 win over Meridian, her only appearance at the plate in the week.

Gulf Coast pitchers have won the award six times in 14 weeks. Kristen Cade (Fr., Harrison Central/Saucier) has won twice. They've helped lead the staff to the lowest opposition batting average in the country (.214), the second-most strikeouts per seven innings (8.13) and 13th-best ERA (2.25).
