The East Central Community College softball team will begin Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges State Tournament play at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, against the Northeast Lady Tigers at Community Bank Park/Gwen Magee Field on the campus of Jones College in Ellisville.
The No. 12 ranked Lady Warriors will be the No. 4 seed and face No. 5 seed Northeast. East Central swept a doubleheader over Northeast 13-0 and 7-4 in Booneville on April 17.
East Central finished the regular season with a 28-12 overall record and 21-7 in league play. Northeast is 35-13 overall and was 20-8 in MACJC play.
Jones College, which had the best MACJC regular season record, is the tournament host and No. 1 seed. The tournament runs May 8-11.
The top three teams from the MACJC State Tournament, along with No. 1 ranked LSU-Eunice, will advance to the National Junior College Athletic Association Region 23 Tournament at a site to be determined.
Two teams advance from the region tournament to play at the NJCAA Division II Softball Championship at Traceway Park in Clinton on May 22-25.
