Jones Lady Bobcats continue play in tennis nationals

TYLER, Texas – The 12th-ranked Jones College Lady Bobcats will have one doubles team and four players in singles competing going into the third day of the NJCAA Division I National Tennis Tournament.

Jones currently has 4.5 points, which places them 26th in the tournament.

ASA Miami and Hillsborough College (Florida) are tied for first place with 27 points and host Tyler is third with 23 points.

The tournament concludes Friday.

On Monday, Mireia Jordan (Spain) and Ariadna Jordan (Spain) beat Meagan Moore and Erika Roman of Berry College (Georgia) 8-1 in the No. 1 doubles consolation round. The Jordan sisters will face Georgina Kaindoah and Takalina Molaoa of Cowley College (Kansas) at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.

In the No. 2 singles consolation round, Ariadna Jordan beat Sabrina Sanchez of Mesa Community College (Arizona) 8-6. She will face Irene Romero of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (Georgia) at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday.

Judith Mills (Pontotoc) defeated Tanya Bonkova of Eastern Arizona 8-2 in the No. 6 singles consolation round. She plays Kelly Hudak of Harford College (Maryland) at 1 p.m. on Tuesday.

In No. 3 singles consolation play, Danielle Viljoen (Jackson) meets Karla Ortega of St. Petersburg College (Florida) at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday. In No. 4 singles consolation play, Kaitlyn Craig (Petal) faces Kara Clark of Copiah-Lincoln at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday.

In a No. 3 doubles winner's bracket match on Monday, Viljoen and Mills lost to Britain Botsford and Diarra Thomas of State College of Florida, 0-6, 4-6.

In No. 2 doubles consolation action on Monday, Craig and Dixie Lei Hodges (Laurel Christian School) fell 8-2 to Venus Ubiebi and Jenese Fulgenzi of New Mexico Military Institute.

In a No. 1 singles consolation match, Mireia Jordan lost 2-8 to Agustina Diaz of Abraham Baldwin.

Hodges lost 6-8 to Elaine Holt of Snead State (Alabama) in a No. 5 singles consolation match.
