JC Bobcats end regular season with wins over Itawamba

FULTON – Jones College concluded regular season play with victories here Friday afternoon.

The No. 18 Lady Bobcats beat Itawamba, 7-2. Jones ends the year at 18-1.

The No. 24 Jones men defeated the Indians, 5-4. The Bobcats finish regular season play at 15-5.

Jones will now participate in the MACJC/Region 23 Tournament April 10-13 in Tupelo.

Itawamba is scheduled to play at East Central on Saturday.

Jones won two of the doubles points.

Mireia Jordan (Spain) and Ariadna Jordan (Spain) defeated Maggie Creekmore and Juliana Alves in No. 1 doubles, 8-2. Danielle Viljoen (Jackson) and Judith Mills (Pontotoc) downed Riley Crouch and Farrah Fowlkes in No. 2 doubles, 8-1. Dixie Lei Hodges (Laurel Christian School) and Carley Cochran (Wayne County) lost to Claire Ferguson and Caroline Ferguson in No. 3 doubles, 2-8.

In No. 1 singles, Mireia Jordan whipped Alves, 6-0, 6-1. Ariadna Jordan blanked Creekmore in No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-0. Viljoen downed Claire Ferguson in No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-1 and Hodges beat Caroline Ferguson in No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-4. Mills defeated Fowlkes in No. 5 singles, 6-2, 6-4. Sarrah Der-Ballout (MSMS) lost to Crouch in No. 6 singles, 1-6, 4-6.

ICC falls to 6-7 on the season.

Jones trailed 2-1 after doubles play, but rallied with four wins in singles.

Erich Fischer (Wesson) and Jacob Johnson (North Pike) defeated Reese Duncan and Sergio Garcia in No. 2 doubles, 8-6. Jordi Morey (Spain) and Noel Monsalve (Venezuela) lost to Franco Roldan and Blake Gregory in No. 1 doubles, 6-8. James McWilliams (Northwest Rankin) and Daniel Tanious (Laurel) lost to Hayden Embry and Zak Keith in No. 3 doubles, 5-8. 

Monsalve defeated Garcia in No. 2 singles, 6-2, 7-6 (7-2). Fischer outlasted Duncan in No. 3 singles, 7-5, 3-6, 10-6.  Johnson defeated Keith in No. 4 singles, 6-3, 6-2. Tanious clinched the match with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Brody Clayton in No. 6 singles. Morey lost to Rodan in No. 1 singles, 4-6, 5-7 and McWilliams fell to Embry in No. 5 singles, 1-6, 6-2, 0-1.

Itawamba is 4-8 on the season.
