Nationally ranked Bobcat tennis teams defeat Co-Lin

ELLISVILLE – It was a long day of tennis here Saturday at the Howard Sports Complex/Bobcat Tennis Courts.

The No. 18 Lady Bobcats defeated No. 17 Copiah-Lincoln 7-2 and Wallace St. (Alabama), 8-1. The No. 24 Bobcats blanked the Wolves 9-0 and then lost to No. 16 Wallace St., 6-3.

The Lady Bobcats are now 12-1 on the season, while the Bobcat men are 10-4.

The Jones tennis teams will be at home again for a 2 p.m. match on Monday vs. Holmes.

On Monday, Co-Lin hosts Southwest and Wallace St. plays at Mississippi Gulf Coast.

No. 18 Lady Bobcats 7, No. 17 Co-Lin 2

Jones won two of the three doubles points.

Mireia Jordan (Spain) and Ariadna Jordan (Spain) beat Paula Coronado and Carmen Manicea, 8-5, in No. 1 doubles. Danielle Viljoen (Jackson) and Judith Mills (Pontotoc) defeated Madison Shows and McKenzie Shows in No. 3 doubles, 8-6. Kaitlyn Craig (Petal) and Dixie Lei Hodges (Laurel Christian School) dropped an 8-1 decision to Katy Clark and Kathy Clark in No. 2 doubles.

Ariadna Jordan rallied past Manicea in No. 2 singles, 3-6, 6-1, 10-8. Viljoen whipped Katy Clark 6-0, 6-3 in No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-3. Craig edged Kara Clark in No. 4 singles, 6-2, 5-7, 10-8 and Hodges outlasted Ashlyn Locke in No. 5 singles, 6-1, 5-7, 10-4. Mills beat Faith Bergeron in No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-1.

Coronado edge Mireia Jordan in No. 1 singles, 3-6, 6-2, 10-7.

Co-Lin is now 9-2 on the season.

The Lady Bobcats won all of the doubles points.

Mireia Jordan and Ariadna Jordan beat Nicole Barron and Maggie Taylor in No. 1 doubles, 8-4. Craig and Hodges defeated Mary Ann Wolfe and Emily Perry in No. 2 doubles, 8-5. Viljoen and Mills downed Haley Putnam and Crissy Cruz in No. 3 doubles, 8-5.

Mireia Jordan beat Barron in No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-0 and Ariadna Jordan downed Perry in No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-1. Viljoen defeated Putnam in No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-4. Hodges downed Kailee Upchurch in No. 5 singles, 6-2, 6-3 and Mills defeated Cruz in No. 6 singles, 6-4, 6-4. Craig lost to Taylor in No. 4 singles, 6-7 (6-8), 1-6.

Wallace St. falls to 5-9 on the season.

No. 24 Bobcats 9, Wolves 0

In No. 1 doubles, Erich Fischer (Wesson) and Jacob Johnson (North Pike) blanked Braden Ishee and Ray Drane, 8-0. James McWilliams (Northwest Rankin) and Daniel Tanious (Laurel) beat Drew Nelson and Toby White in No. 2 doubles, 8-3. Noel Monsalve (Venezeual) and Conner Henderson (Petal) won No. 3 doubles by default.

Fischer defeated Ishee in No.1 singles, 6-1, 6-1. Johnson shut out Drane in No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-0. McWilliams beat Nelson in No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-2. Tanious whipped White in No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-1 and Henderson rolled past Jason Clayburn in No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-0. Cody Courtney (Florence) won No. 6 singles by default.

Co-Lin falls to 1-10 on the season.

No. 16 Lions 6, No. 24 Bobcats 3

The Lions swept the doubles points.

Jordi Morey (Spain) and Noel Monsalve (Venezuela) lost 5-8 to Sebastian Arce and Will Brackin in No. 1 doubles. In No. 2 doubles, Fischer and Johnson fell to Nick Hester and Ethan Aycock, 3-8. McWilliams and Tanious lost to Andrew Bizilia and Ben Hicks, 4-8, in No. 3 doubles.

Monsalve beat Aycock in No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-4. Johnson defeated Bizilia in No. 4 singles, 7-5, 6-2 and McWilliams beat Zach Mastin in No. 5 singles, 6-3, 6-4. 

Jones lost three tight matches in singles play.

Morey fell to Arce in No. 1 singles, 6-3, 2-6, 4-10. Fischer fell to Hester in No. 3 singles, 7-6 (7), 5-7, 7-10. In No. 6 singles, Tanious dropped a 1-6, 6-4, 7-10 decision to Brackin.

Wallace St. is now 11-3 on the season.
