Nationally ranked Bobcat tennis teams blank Southwest

ELLISVILLE – The Jones College tennis teams had another strong outing on Wednesday afternoon at the Howard Sports Complex/Bobcat Tennis Courts.

Both teams blanked Southwest Mississippi by 9-0 scores.

Jones will return home on Saturday for two matches. The Bobcats host Copiah-Lincoln at 10:30 a.m. and Wallace St. at 2:30 p.m. The Bobcats also be at home for a 2 p.m. match on Monday vs. Holmes.

Southwest hosts Holmes on Friday.

No. 18 Lady Bobcats 9, Southwest 0

In No. 1 doubles, Mireia Jordan (Spain) and Ariadna Jordan (Spain) blanked Ali Smith and Kimberly San, 8-0. Kaitlyn Craig (Petal) and Dixie Lei Hodges (Laurel Christian School) defeated Megan White and Sarah Robinson in No. 2 doubles, 8-2. Danielle Viljoen (Jackson) and Judith Mills (Pontotoc) won No. 3 doubles by forfeit.

The Lady Bobcats did not lose a set in singles.

Mireia Jordan shut out Smith in No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0 and Ariadna Jordan blanked San in No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-0. Viljoen whipped Robinson in No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-0 and Mills downed White in No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-0. Sarah Der-Ballout (MSMS) and Carley Cochran (Wayne County) won No.'s 5 and 6 singles, respectively, by default.

Jones improves to 10-1, while Southwest is 0-6 on the season.

No. 24 Bobcats 9, Bears 0

Jordi Morey (Spain) and Noel Monsalve (Venezuela) blanked Daniel Espinosa and Skyler Rasberry in No. 1 doubles, 8-0, and Erich Fischer (Wesson) and Jody Johnson (North Pike) shut out Jexequiel Dela Cruz and Hunter Burgess in No. 2 doubles, 8-0. Daniel Tanious (Laurel) and Conner Henderson (Petal) beat Matthew Phillips and Luke Morgan in No. 3 doubles, 8-5.

Morey defeated Espinosa in No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-1 and Monsalve whipped Phillips in No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-1. Fischer beat Rasberry in No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-2 and Johnson downed Cullin Hendry in No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-0. Tanious defeated Morgan in No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-0 and James McWilliams (Northwest Rankin) beat Dela Cruz in No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-0.

The Bobcats are 9-3, while the Bears are now 0-6 on the year.
