ECCC Tennis Teams Split Matches on Alabama Trip

The East Central Community College tennis teams opened Spring Break week with a trip to Alabama for two matches each.

 

On Saturday, March 16, the No. 25 ECCC Lady Warriors defeated Snead State 8-1, while the Warriors topped No. 23 ranked Gadsden State 9-0. The matches were played in Gadsden, Ala.

 

On Sunday, March 17, both teams squared off against Wallace State-Hanceville in matches in Hanceville, Ala. The No. 24 Wallace State women defeated the Lady Warriors 6-3, while the No. 16 ranked Wallace State men won a 9-0 match over the Warriors.

 

The ECCC Lady Warriors, who entered the Oracle/ITA NJCAA Women's Top 25 poll last week at No. 25, are now 8-6 on the season, while the Warriors are 7-7.

 

Men's Doubles Results vs. Gadsden State:

EC's Chris Lawrance (York, Western Australia) and Isaac Santitto (Innisfail, Queensland, Australia) defeated Gadsden's Rashon Sessoms and Andrew Bennett, 8-4; EC's Peyton Chaney (Newton County) and Dylan Barnett (Newton County), defeated Gadsden's Stephen Walker and Justin Blake, 8-1; and EC's Isaac Keen (Winston Academy) and Jake Wofford (East Webster) defeated Gadsden's Sloan Gartman and Kyle Hale, 8-6.

 

Men's Singles Results vs. Gadsden State:

EC's Lawrance defeated Gartman, 6-0, 6-0; EC's Santitto defeated Walker, 6-0, 6-1; EC's Barnett defeated Blake, 6-1, 6-4; EC's Keen defeated Sessoms, 6-4, 6-1; EC's Wofford defeated Bennett, 6-2, 6-2; and EC's Chaney defeated Hale, 6-3, 6-1.

 

Women's Doubles Results vs. Snead State:

EC's Josie Hurst (Newton County) and Ali Grace Walker (Newton County) defeated Snead's Meagan Moore and Erika Rowan, 8-2; EC's Gabriela Gomez (Bogota, Colombia) and Kayla Baucum (Newton County) defeated Snead's Macklyn Hubbard and Jessie Griffith, 9-8 (7-1); and EC's Bethany Wellerman (Newton County Academy) and Alexis Tindall (Newton County Academy) defeated Snead's Ashton Downey and Bailey Bowman, 8-5.

 

Women's Singles Results vs. Snead State:

EC's Gomez defeated Rowan, 6-3, 6-1; EC's Walker defeated Moore, 6-2, 6-4; Hubbard defeated EC's Hurst, 6-3, 6-2; EC's Tindall defeated Griffith, 7-6 (10-8), 6-0; EC's Wellerman defeated Elaina Holt, 6-2, 6-4; and EC's Baucum defeated Katie Hill, 7-5, 6-1.

 

Men's Doubles Results vs. Wallace State:

Wallace's Sebastian Arce and William Brackin defeated EC's Chris Lawrance (York, Western Australia) and Isaac Santitto (Innisfail, Queensland, Australia), 8-6; Wallace's Ethan Aycock and Nick Hester defeated EC's Peyton Chaney (Newton County) and Dylan Barnett (Newton County), 8-4; and Wallace's Andrew Bizilia and Benjamin Hicks defeated EC's Isaac Keen (Winston Academy) and Jake Wofford (East Webster), 8-0.

 

Men's Singles Results vs. Wallace State:

Arce defeated EC's Lawrance, 6-2, 6-2; Aycock defeated EC's Santitto, 6-2, 6-2; Hester defeated EC's Barnett, 6-0, 6-4; Bizilia defeated EC's Keen, 6-0, 6-0; Wallace's Zachary Mastin defeated EC's Wofford, 3-6, 6-4 (10-6); and Brackin defeated EC's Chaney, 6-1, 6-3.

 

Women's Doubles Results vs. Wallace State:

EC's Josie Hurst (Newton County) and Ali Grace Walker (Newton County) defeated Wallace's Nicole Barron and Maggie Taylor, 8-5; EC's Gabriela Gomez (Bogota, Colombia) and Kayla Baucum (Newton County) defeated Wallace's Mary Ann Wolfe and Emily Perry, 8-6; and Wallace's Haley Putman and Crissy Cruz defeated EC's Bethany Wellerman (Newton County Academy) and Alexis Tindall (Newton County Academy), 8-3.

 

Women's Singles Results vs. Wallace State:

Barron defeated EC's Gomez, 6-3, 6-3; EC's Walker defeated Wolfe, 6-4, 6-3; Perry defeated EC's Hurst, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4); Putman defeated EC's Tindall, 4-6, 6-1 (10-3); Taylor defeated EC's Wellerman, 6-2, 6-2; and Wallace's Kailee Upchurch defeated EC's Baucum, 6-1, 6-0.

 

The East Central teams will return home for their next two matches. The Warriors and Lady Warriors will face Meridian at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27, and Holmes at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 29. Both matches will be at the ECCC Tennis Complex in Decatur.
