POPLARVILLE, Miss. — Pearl River's men's soccer program has bolstered its back line with the addition of Jamie Chamberlain.
The 6-foot-3, 190-pound centerback comes to Poplarville from Herne Bay, a coastal town located in the Southeast England.
Chamberlain joins a 2020 signing class that already includes Brazilian midfielder Julio Cezar Gruba Filho along with Mississippi standouts Dustin Cuevas of Hancock, Brandon Elkins of St. Stanislaus, Alex Emery of West Harrison and Rafa Jakubowicz of St. Martin.
"Jamie is a big, athletic centerback who is a great defender and good in the air," Pearl River coach Drew Gallant said. "He does a good job of playing between the lines and playing out of pressure.
"He's a natural leader and at 6-foot-3, he's a major presence on the field."
Gallant is excited about Chamberlain's potential partnership with Elkins at the middle of PRCC's back line.
"The pair should allow us to continue to be a possession team and play through the back line," he said. "Jamie has the potential to have an immediate impact on our program and become a dominant center back that opposing teams will want to play away from."
Chamberlain developed by playing with Kent County's youth teams and eventually advanced to Herne Bay's first team. His experience also includes time with Dover Athletic's academy. His first season with the academy, Dover won the league — only dropping one contest — and claimed the Kent academies cup; advancing to quarterfinals of the national cup.
In his second season with the academy, Dover won a second straight U19 youth alliance, conceding only 11 goals with an unblemished league record. That season, Chamberlain's club went on to win the national cup.
Chamberlain later played with Snodland FC and Canterbury City FC.
