POPLARVILLE, Miss. — Pearl River men's soccer coach Drew Gallant has announced the foundation of its 2020 signing class.

The first four prep standouts to sign with the Wildcats are Dustin Cuevas, Brandon Elkins, Alex Emery and Rafa Jakubowicz.

"So far, it's a really good class that's filling in a lot of spots where we're losing impact players," Gallant said. "I'm excited to see how it's coming together."

Cuevas will join PRCC after a standout career at Hancock High. After having torn an ACL last December, Gallant is excited to see where Cuevas is at early in his senior season.

"Dustin is a very quick, athletic and hard-nosed player," Gallant said. "He'll bring versatility to the midfield that we will need next season. He's a balanced player who can chip in on the attack but doesn't mind putting in a hard tackle as well."

Cuevas is the brother of former PRCC standout and Hall of Famer Lyndsey Lee.

Elkins is another legacy signee for the Wildcats as he's the younger brother of former PRCC star Andrew Elkins, who signed with Auburn-Montgomery. Like his older brother, Brandon is a difference maker at centerback.

"We're excited to bring another Elkins into our family. We think a lot of Brandon," Gallant said. "We expect him to come in and contribute immediately at centerback. He's a very good defender in every sense of the word. He reads the game incredibly well, does a great job of getting out of pressure to transition into counter-attacks and is a quality leader."

Emery is expected to bring a splash of skill the Wildcats will need in the midfield.

"Alex is a very technical player and he's a big kid, which is a rare blend of skills that makes him exciting as a prospect," Gallant said. "He does a very good job of finding the forwards' feet and finding balls to slot through for forwards as well."

Emery's father, Greg, played football at the Naval Academy in 1992-94 as a punter and receiver.

The final member of PRCC's early signing group is Jakubowicz. Like Emery, the St. Martin standout should add a new dimension to the Wildcats' midfield.

"Rafa is a creative player who fits our style of play," Gallant said. "He does a great job of playing under pressure and staying in possession. I can't wait to get him in our program."

PRCC expects to sign more players throughout the winter and spring semesters.
