No. 1 Mississippi Gulf Coast shot the lowest score of the day Tuesday, but it wasn't enough to make up enough ground in the standings in the final round of the Central Alabama Invitational in Alexander City, Ala.
The Bulldogs, who play in NJCAA Division II, shot 5-over 294 and finished 10 shots behind the host team, and five behind Calhoun. Central Alabama is ranked sixth in the Bushnell Golfweek NJCAA Division I Coaches Poll, and Gulf Coast is four shots ahead of Eastern Florida State, which is third in that ranking.
MGCCC was the only Division II team in the tournament. The Bulldogs sit atop the Bushnell Golfweek NJCAA Division II Coaches Poll.
Brice Wilkinson (So., Madison Central/Madison) shot 70 to finish at 2-under and earn All-Tournament honors for the fourth straight event by finishing tied for fourth. Jon Hopkins (Fr., Hockerill Anglo-European College/Bishop's Stortford, England) and Carter Nicholson (So., Pearl River Central/Carriere) tied for ninth at 3-under.
This was the last event of the fall semester for the MGCCC golf team.
