PERKINSTON — No. 1 Mississippi Gulf Coast closes out its fall golf schedule Monday and Tuesday, heading to Alexander City, Ala., to play in the Central Alabama Invitational.
The host team is ranked sixth in the Bushnell Golfweek NJCAA Division I Coaches Poll. The Bulldogs are first in the Division II version of the poll.
Gulf Coast hasn't lost to a Division II school this season after four tournaments. The Bulldogs finished second in the MGCCC Fall Invitational last week, one shot behind D-I John A. Logan. They won the MACJC portion of the tournament, remaining unbeaten in the state.
Jon Hopkins (Fr., Hockerill Anglo-European College/Bishops Stortford, England) has won or shared medalist honors in each of the last two tournaments. He needed two playoff holes last week, and shared honors with teammate Brice Wilkinson (So., Madison Central/Madison) the outing before that.
