The Bears came out on the wrong end of the score Thursday night as they dropped a 29-10 decision to the 4th-ranked Northwest Rangers in Senatobia.
The Bears took a 3-0 lead with 9:54 left in the first quarter on the strength of a 31-yard Brazos Webb field goal.
Northwest (2-0) then tied the game at 3-3, with 5:19, left in the quarter on a 22-yard field goal from Cole Catalano.
A short Chris Calvert touchdown run and De Mays' interception return for a score, along with two Catalano PATs, left Northwest on top 17-3 with 12:07 left in the second quarter.
The Bears narrowed their deficit to 17-10, with 5:41 before the end of the half, when Zarious Keyes scampered into the end zone from the 15 yard line. Webb booted the PAT.
Catalano scored the final points of the first half with a 20-yard field goal with 0:32 on the clock that left the hosts with a 20-10 lead at intermission.
Northwest scored the only points of the second half on Calvert's second touchdown run, Catalano's PAT and a safety in the third quarter to reach the final score.
Keyes topped the Bears' running game with 64 yards and a touchdown on 8 carries. Keyvont Baines and Ja'Tyler Moore combined to complete 5 of 22 passes for 116 yards. Da'Bryan Magee had four receptions for 86 yards.
The Bears recorded 7 first downs in the game and were penalized 10 times for 80 yards. Jack Runnels averaged 32 yards on 7 punts.
Calvert carried the ball 15 times for 169 yards, and two touchdowns, to pace the Northwest offense. Jack Walker and Jack Strouse combined to complete 12 of 21 passes for 78 yards. Walker was picked off twice.
Northwest registered 26 first downs on the night and were penalized 7 times for 65 yards. Drew Dabney averaged 35 yards on 4 punts.
The Bears return to the field, and make their home debut, on September 12 at 7:00 when they host the East Central Warriors at John I. Hurst Stadium.
