The Bears outhit the Delgado Dolphins 17-11 Thursday night in New Orleans, but were unable to outscore their hosts as they were defeated 4-3 and 6-4. Game one went nine innings.

The Bears went on top 1-0 in the top of the third inning in game one when Cody Ellzey, on base with the first of his two singles in the game, scored on the first of Michael Buck's two base hits.

Delgado (9-3) tied the game with a run in the bottom of the third then scored twice in their half of the fifth to take a 3-1 lead.

A two-RBI single from the Bears' Will Ford, the first of his two hits tied the score at 3-3. The game remained tied until the bottom of the ninth when a bases-loaded error allowed Delgado to score the winning run.

Coby Gilbert took the loss on the mound for the Bears (6-5), giving up an unearned run on two hits and a walk in two innings of work.

In the finale, the Bears trailed 1-0 in the top of the fourth when Britt Netterville reached base on the first of his two hits in the game and scored three batters later on a Ford single to tie the game at 1-1.

The Bears went on top 3-1 in the top of the fifth when Buck walked and Ford was hit by a pitch, both with the bases loaded.

The Bears' lead was short-lived, however, as Delgado scored twice in the bottom of the fifth and three times in the sixth to take a 6-3 lead.

Buck singled to drive in a run in the top of the seventh, his second hit of the game, to bring the Bears' to within two runs, but they were unable to score any additional runs as Delgado held on to capture the win.

Brenden Baker surrendered three runs on three walks and a hit in a short stint on the mound to take the loss for the Bears.

The Bears return to the field on Friday afternoon when they host the Highland College Cougars. The first pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 2:00.
